Painter in oil, watercolour and tempera, born in Western Australia. He became a printer at The Bristol Times and Mirror, met Gwen Cross during Reginald Bush’s evening classes at Bristol Art School and married her in 1931. At first Fred was influenced by his wife’s work, although he later became more experimental. In Bristol Whicker was a member of New Bristol Arts Club and showed at RWA. He also exhibited figure and landscape paintings at RA, NEAC and ROI. After World War II the Whickers moved to Falmouth, Cornwall, and became members of the St Ives Society of Artists, although life was often economically tough. A joint retrospective was held at Falmouth Art Gallery and the RWA in 1994.
