Artist (latterly mainly a watercolourist), illustrator, potter, teacher and writer, born and finally lived in Norwich, Norfolk. After education at Norwich School and the local School of Art, attended Slade School of Fine Art, under William Coldstream, tutors including Thomas Monnington, Ceri Richards, Anthony Gross, Edward Ardizzone and E H Gombrich. He joined the staff of Charterhouse, 1957, being director of art, 1970–94, also acting as tutor for Open College of the Arts. As a designer, Woods created the historic map of Godalming for The Godalming Trust. The memorial at Dachau Concentration Camp was completed by him for the International Committee. Was an exhibiting member-potter with the British Crafts Centre. Woods illustrated 10 books, including Roman Crafts, by Donald Strong and David Brown, and The Turkoman Carpet, by George O’Bannon.
