Born and raised in Great Manchester and one of a few British women conceptual artists of her generation. After a period exploring landscape her work from the late 1970s onwards focussed on women, sexual difference and feminism and addressing issues of representation, and showed her work in many British galleries including the ICA, Riverside and Arnolfini. She moved from London to Greece in 1991, and continues to work with text and image installations and remains focussed on how we read an image. Later works can be seen both in New York, Chicago and London, including recently at Tate.
