Painter and teacher, born in Coventry. He studied painting under Richard Hamilton at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne; trained as an art teacher at Goldsmiths’ College; then subsequently completed his master’s degree at Birmingham Polytechnic and a doctorate at London University where he researched into the pedagogy of Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton. He went on to lecture in painting and art history at Warwick University. After graduation he held many solo shows in the Midlands and participated in numerous group exhibitions in London and the provinces. He travelled widely in the Middle East, writing and lecturing on Islamic art and architecture, inspiration for an exhibition at Woodlands Art Gallery in 1992 which attempted to evoke “the silent Surreality of the desert landscape and monuments”.
