This abstract oil tempera painting is prominently signed and dated on the front by Bissier. A sequence of black improvised gestures forms a motif, which sits upon a ground of pale wash. The application of a single point of red pigment highlights the ambiguous form that occupies the upper portion of the work. A product of the artist's subconscious, the shape suggests both figure and building. Bissier was one of the first modern painters to draw his inspiration from Eastern cultures and philosophy.
