This is a copy by one of the Thellusson family, probably Aline, of a painting by Schumann, ‘A Music Party’, in their family home, Brodsworth Hall.

Aline Thellusson was the elder daughter of Charles Sabine and Georgiana Thellusson. There are a number of paintings signed by her at Brodsworth Hall, so many unsigned amateur works have also been attributed to her, although some could be by other family members. Some of these copy paintings or photographs already in the house, which might have offered ready subjects for Aline, who suffered from ill-health and may often have been housebound.
