On the left of the picture are a rowing boat and a barge with a sail: this sail cuts the picture vertically in two. The man in the barge is dressed in a yellow jacket, and holds the bargepole. A seated companion holds the sail rope. The rowing boat is occupied by a stooping figure in a red hat. On the right side of the scene are sailing boats in the middle distance, with, further back, coastline buildings.
