This painting was donated to the University of Northampton by Milton Keynes-based artist John Butterworth on the occasion of an exhibition of his paintings held at the University’s Avenue Gallery in January 2005. Mr Butterworth has said of his paintings that “they are arrived at by mathematical formulae, they are highly organised, complex, consistent and coherent mathematical and logical expressions of universal natural law; each painting is worked out by having its own rules of composition which govern the entire structure and colour of each individual work”.
