Alderman George Clark was the director of the engineering firm Bryan Donkins from 1908 until 1947. He was also a local Councillor and became Mayor of Chesterfield in 1922. He was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Chesterfield in 1946 for his long service to the Council (1910–1945).
