This work is an adaptation of part of a painting of peasants brawling in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich. It was reproduced in the nineteenth century in two prints showing the composition in the same direction as the present painting. The man seated on a round stool on the left holds a pair of pincers containing a tooth. It replaces the knife held by the equivalent man in the painting on which the present painting is based. The man seated opposite holds a hat, while in the original version he prepares to draw a sword from its sheath.
