Impressionistic, smog-ridden view of Bailey Bridge over the River Irwell, Manchester, looking along the river bank to the left towards the low bridge in the background, beyond which can be seen a landscape of factory buildings and chimneys. There is a single boat moored along the riverbank to the left surrounded by dark shadowy figures. Light, dappled paintwork and creates a foggy haze across the picture surface.
