This unique bird bath, which was never on sale to the general public in this form, is a 'hybrid' incorporating parts from the different Coalbrookdale Company products. The pedestal with the figures comes from fountain No. 16, designed by the celebrated French sculptor Carrier-Belleuse. The fluted bowl is from one of the many smaller ornamental garden fountains produced by the Company, and the cast iron bird comes from a statue called 'The Falconer'. For many years it could be seen in the garden of Harold Fowler (1885–1977) who was employed by the Coalbrookdale Company as a draughtsman during the day, and also taught classes at the Coalbrookdale Literary & Scientific Institution in the evening. The bird bath was generously donated to the Museum by his family in his memory.
