A turbulant view of the 'Britannia', on the River Dart at low tide. In the foreground to the left the shore is littered with seaweed and a tall wooden post stands in the wet sand, parallel to the ship's mast. At the foot of the post and again further away in the middleground, a trio of herons are just visible. On the opposite bank sits the 'Britannia', a large black and white vessel with its sails furled.
