A painting, in a 'naïve' style, depicting Captain Philip Melville in a red coat. Captain Melville was governor of Pendennis during the Napoleonic period. He was renowned for his strict discipline and for his humanity towards his men. The painting on display is a copy produced in the English Heritage Painting Conservation Studio, to replace the original in a historic environment that cannot be buffered.
