Catrin was one of the children of Owain Glyndŵr; she and her daughters were held captive in the Tower of London. They were buried in St Swithun's Church that stood where the garden is now. The sculpture is intended both as a commemoration of Catrin herself, and also as a memorial to all women and children who suffer in war.
