Rural scene with a herd of cattle reclining beside a river bank. The cattle, brown and white in colour, lie on the grassland, except for one; the animal stands amongst the herd and looks in the direction of the viewer. Reeds are visible on the river bank to the left of the cattle, and in the background, the water flows into the distance. The landscape stretches out towards the horizon on the right of the composition, and the sky is hazy and still.
