George Ainscow's favourite subjects are still lifes, in particular flowers. Ainscow painted this work to celebrate the acceptance of two of his paintings at the Paris Salon Exhibition of 1986. Ainscow considered this one of his most successful paintings, which was done entirely from imagination. It took him one session of two hours. Ainscow's background as a textile designer is evident in this painting; he is aware of the elements of a picture as part of an overall pattern or arrangement.
