The painting depicts a scene in front of Field House in Clent, one of the Crompton-Roberts' properties. The family is walking out with a pony, which son Henry Roger is riding, and the other children (Charles Montagu and Violet Mary) are playing. The delightful portrait shows Mary Crompton-Roberts in a full crinoline and one of the boys dressed in tartan, a very popular fashion of the day influenced by the Royal family.
