Moth identification has taken place in the gardens for 10 years, and there are 437 different species recorded. Thanks to Arts Council England, a shed was commissioned to house equipment and to provide a public information point, and this decorative and functional step was made for its entrance. The engraved lettering is taken from the novel 'Tristram Shandy'. Eighteenth-century editions of the work contain catchwords – a word under the right-hand side of the last line on a book page that repeats the first word on the following page. Moths are 'caught' just like these words by their attraction to light.
