In 1978 Rochdale Art Gallery curated an exhibition of John Wonnacott’s work which was shown here and then toured. 'Crescent Road II' was part of that exhibition and purchased by the Gallery in the same year. It was painted over a number of years together with two other works – ‘The Family’ and ‘The Grandfather’ – depicting members of his own family. In the 1960s he had started to develop an innovative style of painting using an extraordinarily wide-angled view.
