This portrait of the Scottish singer David Ward by Stephen Conroy is one of several commissioned by Dumbarton District Council in 1984. The artist, Stephen Conroy, was born in Helensburgh in 1964 and brought up in the parental home at Renton, two miles from Dumbarton. He showed great promise while a pupil at St Patrick's High School, Dumbarton, and after graduating from Glasgow School of Art, gained an international reputation with exhibitions in London, New York and elsewhere. His work, not least his portraiture, is highly valued and in great demand.
