The 1881 census shows that Edward Lloyd was aged 68 and had a wife Easter (Ester) Annie, aged 60. The couple also had a daughter, Emily Ada and a son, William. Other persons residing at Maesgwyn were Mary Elizabeth Moss, née Lloyd, her husband John Edward Moss (a civil mining engineer), and their one-year-old son, Edward. Thomas Jones (a farm servant) was also a resident.

This painting was bought for £15 at a car boot sale in Chelsea, London in September 1991 by Marion Evans of Wrexham.
