on plinth: EDWIN WILKINS FIELD / SECRETARY OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION / FOR THE CONCENTRATION OF THE LAW COURTS / A MAN OF RARE ENERGY. / OF LARGE AIMS AND WIDE SYMPATHIES / A WISE AND ZEALOUS LAWYER AND REFORMER OF THE LAWS / A TRUE ARTIST AND FRIEND OF ART. / MAINLY BY HIS AID THE COURTS OF JUSTICE / WERE CONCENTRATED IN THE BUILDING / WHERE THIS STATUE RECORDS ALIKE HIS PUBLIC SERVICES, / AND THE RESPECT AND AFFECTION / OF HIS MANY FRIENDS / BORN THE 12TH OCTOBER 1904 / DIED NOBLY IN THE ACT OF SAVING LIFE. / ON THE 30TH JULY 1871.
