This abstract painting is dominated by a central black 'element' composed of rectilinear forms in varying modulations of black. These forms are bounded by tonal passages of grey and pink, creating an object-ground relationship with the central mass. This object-like quality is emphasised by Gear's use of thick paint applied with a palette knife.
