Frederic Hodgson Rudd Alderson played six times for England between 1891–1893 and was appointed captain in his first international. He was a member of the first ever Barbarians team that visited the north of England at Christmas 1890, playing for his own club, Hartlepool Rovers against them, and then for the Barbarians against Bradford two days later.
