A portrait of Field Marshal Right Honourable Jan Smuts, Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, 1919–1924 and 1939–1948. He was a major sponsor in the Lord Mayor's National Thanksgiving Fund to build William Goodenough House, and also publicised the appeal widely throughout South Africa.
