Thomas Brigstocke was a British portrait painter. He first studied in Henry Sass's studio, then at the Royal Academy Schools, under Henry Perronet Briggs, and subsequently under John Prescott Knight. He also studied in Paris, Florence, Rome and Naples over a period of eight years, and made some copies of the Old Masters, including Raphael's 'The Transfiguration' (originally in the Vatican). This is a portrait of General Sir William Nott, who was a British military leader in British India.
