'Geo at Yesnaby and Brough of Bigging' shows three yoles (traditional Orkney fishing boats) pulled up on the beach within a rocky cliffscape. This stretch of coastline on the west of mainland Orkney was a favourite subject of Stanley Cursiter and he returned there to paint many times, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s. This painting is typical of Cursiter's assured style of figurative painting, using broad brush strokes and a rich palette to depict the Orkney landscape.
