The plinth is of apple veneer on top of birch plywood, made by cabinetmaker, John Beavan Ltd. Apple wood veneer was chosen for the plinth in reference to Gerald Finzi's interest in apple growing, a pursuit that led to the composer saving a number of rare British apple varieties.
The marquetry within the veneer of the musical score and the accompanying words for that section of music at the bottom of the plinth was inlaid by Joe Geoghegan at Heritage Inlay Design Ltd.
