Godfrey Morgan, 2nd Baron, 1st Viscount Tredegar (1831–1913) survived the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War. He was a popular benefactor to public institutions in Newport. The bust is similar to a statue of Viscount Tredegar by the same artist, standing in Cathays Park, Cardiff.
