Gruinart is a very low, wet part of Islay, some of which is farmed and is looked after by the RSPB.

Perpetua Pope was born in Solihull, Warwickshire. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and taught at Moray House College of Education. The artist has painted in the west of Scotland and Barra every summer since the 1970s.
