The wide expanse of Hayle Estuary and the ever-changing reflections in its pools of water fascinated a number of the St Ives artists during this period.

Here, the artist seeks to capture the light at twilight, a favourite subject for him; the cool dusk tones are lifted with a pinprick of warm orange light from a distant house. The loose, impasto brushwork is typical of Osborn, as is the Whistlerian minimalism.
