Henry Revell Reynolds (1745–1811) was educated at Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh universities, before settling in London. He was appointed physician to Middlesex Hospital and St Thomas's, and was elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1774. In 1788 he was called to attend George III, becoming his physician-extraordinary in 1797. Unfortunately, Reynolds’ own death was brought on by the exhaustive questioning about the king's condition that he was subjected to in the House of Lords. Reynolds suffered from rheumatism, which was aggravated by the exertions and anxieties that came with his job. During the first day of the hearings he was questioned for hours because of his intimate knowledge of the king’s conditions, but because of house etiquette, he was not allowed to sit down.
