Lot 43 in the sale of the collection of Count Altamira in June 1827, London, this painting was described in the auction catalogue as ‘A magnificent picture; the subject treated with great force and grandeur.’ Sold for £77.6s to Joseph Strutt, as referenced in Strutt’s collection catalogue found in the Derby Local Studies Library, the painting was presented the Town and County Museum in 1844 before being gifted to Derby Museum in 1872.
