As an essential piece of equipment for the British forces for many years, the Land Rover has proved its versatility in armed conflict both home and abroad. The lightweight Land Rover could be dropped into any battle arena by air, together with supplies and communications. Frank Wootton’s view of desert conflict ably illustrates the operation of delivering Land Rovers and associated equipment by air in the midst of the battle zone. Frank Wootton studied under Eric Ravilious and is known for a range of genres, including landscape and equestrian subjects. He is best known, however, as an aviation artist, perhaps the finest of our time. His attention to historical and technical accuracy leaves one with a real sense of the aircraft, their operation and ability to fly.
