Keith Grant studied at the Willesden School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He was formerly Head of Fine Art at what was then he Roehampton Institute, now Roehampton University. While there he was invited to go to Guyana to witness the launch of the University's first satellite UOSAT-1 on the Space Shuttle Ariane. Paintings of this were exhibited at the University in 1984 and he subsequently donated this triptych which was hung in the Surrey Space Centre.
