A half-length portrait, seated, facing right, of an elderly man. He has short, thin grey hair and a moustache. He wears a white muffler and a thick double breasted dark jacket with a small velvet collar. Across his chest, he wears a thin leather strap, and rests his hands on his ivory-topped cane in front of him. On the little finger of his left hand he wears a ring. Major Jonathan White, a native of Nottingham, was born 29th February 1804, enlisted in 1820, and as early as 1823, being only 19, he was raised to the rank of Sergeant.
