In this three-quarter length portrait the sitter holds a staff in his right hand and his gloves and papers in his left. He is wearing a black gown edged with fur and a doublet with slashed sleeves and white frills at the wrist. The painting is inscribed 'Martin Bond Treasurer aet 48 1602' at the top, and 'Mr Martin Bond Treasurer Anno Dom 1642' at the bottom. Both inscriptions are suspect however, as the sitter was not yet Treasurer in 1602, and in 1642 he was in his eighties, while this picture shows a younger man.
