Matufiminga was one of a group of six men and women from the Ituri forest in present-day Democratic Republic of Congo, who were persuaded to come to Britain in 1905 by big-game hunter Colonel Harrison. They appeared in theatres in London and throughout the country over the course of the next two years. On stage the group appeared before a forest backdrop, with huts in front of it. Their European interpreter gave a lecture about their life in the forest, and the Ituri sang, danced and played the drums.
