The smaller dog is a cocker spaniel called Ludo, who works for Thames Valley Police as a forensics recovery dog and the ‘big’ dog was a German Shepherd, called Karly who was worked by Mandy Chapman as a general purpose dog in the Metropolitan Police Service area. The police officer is dressed in No. 1 uniform to show respect to the memorial and to those dogs who have lost their lives. The three are depicted together as they need each other to function effectively, and the positioning shows the trust and bond that they have for one and other.
