Rutherford often took trips out into the countryside or went to stay with friends. He would sketch and photograph the landscape around him and then later paint the scenes in his studio.

Bredon Hill is in Worcestershire in the south west of England. The sunlight plays in the fields and the clouds move across the blue sky. It is an idyllic scene. We do not know the date for this work, but a newspaper article on the back suggests it was exhibited in 1978.
