The sculpture is fabricated from more than fifty rusted Core Ten steel spheres and takes the shape of a double helix. The sculpture aims to highlight the industrial heritage and the stunning natural environment of Derwenthaugh Park. 'Oak and Iron' appears industrial yet natural. The idea for the sculpture came through working with Winlaton West Lane Community Primary School. The artist and fifty year five children explored the history of Winlaton Mill, Crowley’s Ironworks and the natural environment of Derwenthaugh Park.
