In the early hours of Easter Sunday, 23rd March 2008, the 'Royal Gatehouse Hotel' in Tenby was devastated by fire. This building had housed a hotel for well over 150 years. More than 100 firefighters battled to try and contain the blaze. Linda Thompson, originally from Edinburgh but a long-term resident of Pembrokeshire, said of the reason for her painting, 'The many photographs taken of the burning building, especially in the dark hours of the morning were so shocking and vivid that I felt this warranted recording in paint, for posterity. Using acrylic, oil, ink and photographic images that I took during the daylight hours on the Sunday, I have assembled a picture that shows the scene from an imaginary viewpoint, which I felt encapsulates the drama.
