'Piranha' was part of an exhibition 'Samba, Sun and the South of Brazil', held at Hylands House in Chelmsford. It is one of a series of collages/paintings created following the artist's month-long trip to Brazil during Carnival time. Many of the markets sell varnished piranha fish on wooden stands. They look so ugly and sinister, yet quite beautiful – the painting tries to capture that ambiguity. The papers used are old music manuscripts and cigarette papers.
