Belfast-born physicist William Blair Morton was educated at Belfast Royal Academy, Queen’s College, Belfast and St John’s College, Cambridge. In 1982 he returned to Queen’s as assistant to Professor Everett in the chair of natural philosophy and succeeded to the chair in 1897. An active participant in numerous matters connected with the advancement of the university, he was dean of the faculty of science and a member of the university senate.
