Solimena’s principle works were for churches in Naples and he became very famous in the 18th century, acquiring great wealth and becoming a Baron. He was also a celebrated teacher and 'Rebecca at the Well' is most likely by one of his students. The story itself is Old Testament and concerns Eliezer, a servant of Abraham, who is sent to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac. The suitable wife, Rebecca, is found at a drinking well drawing water for the animals.
