The reconstruction of the medieval paintings of c.1350 on the east wall of St Stephen's Chapel were executed in tempera on wooden panels by Professor Tristram in the 1920s, working from drawings dating from 1800 to 1811 by Richard Smirke in the society of antiquaries. They were presented by The Right Honourable Sir Samuel Roberts, MP, and form part of a larger collection of some 20 paintings by Professor Tristram, set into the walls around the Terrace Staircase; with great attention to detail they record medieval paintings of the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries which had originally adorned the walls of the Royal Chapel and painted Chamber of the medieval Palace of Westminster.
