Sir Frederick Halsey (1839–1927), 1st Bt, was Deputy Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of Freemasonry in England and Wales, from 1903 to 1926. Sir Frederick was a Conservative Member of Parliament for Hertfordshire and then Watford from 1874 to 1906. From 1901 to 1906 he was a member of the Privy Council of Edward VII, and in this painting he is wearing the uniform of this office with a medal commemorating the King’s coronation in 1902.
