Sir Robert Easton is shown here wearing the robes of the University Chancellor and the neck decoration of a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. This gown is made from red Paisley brocade with a square collar at the back edged with gold lace. Each sleeve is trimmed, above and below the sleeve opening with gold ornaments of a traditional pattern. With this gown a red velvet mortar cap is worn with gold button and tassel and edged with one-inch gold lace. Internationally known and respected as a Scottish industrialist and naval warship builder, Sir Robert was the last Fellow of the Paisley College and the first Doctor of the University of Paisley. This portrait is set in Sir Robert’s home and illustrates various items from his naval career and his time with the University.
