A painting of two Scottish families outside a log cabin listening to a man reading the Bible, beside whom a girl in ill health is sitting.

Born in Kirkkudbrightshire, Scotland, this artist specialised in somewhat sentimental paintings recording the difficult day-to-day life of the poverty-stricken working classes. Faed painted a number of pictures recording the emigration of Highlanders, including members of his own family, to North America and Canada.
